Every good change has a beginning. For us it happened while Jeremy was out of town. I found myself bored one night and thought I would watch a food documentary. So as I was looking through what was on Netflix the fork over knife caught my eye. I didn't want to watch something that was going to gross me out so I researched it a bit before watching and the reviews I found were only positive. So I watched it. By the time the movie was over I was convinced this was something we had to do not only for ourselves but for our children.
I started planning out meals for the following month based on what we already ate just trying to find meatless options. We still had meat in our freezer so I planned that in for one meal a week. Ha! Instead of one meatless meal a week we planned for one meaty meal a week. I did all of this without consulting Jeremy. Once he got back I talked to him, told him my plan and then had him watch it. As soon as it was over the first words out of his mouth were, "We're going to be 'that' family". This was said in a slightly negative tone. When I asked what 'that' family meant, he said, "you know, the weird home schooling vegetarian family". His tone reflected more of the amount of change we were going to have to make.
And so the journey began.
The next day Jeremy was talking to one of his co-workers about it and he mentioned he had the book, "the china study", which the documentary is based on. He let us borrow it and we are still in the process of digesting all the info in there. The more I read the more I am just astounded by the truth of all the information and how it is kept from us. We do not view this as a diet but as a lifestyle change. There is too much scientific evidence and studies done (in multiple countries) that the information is too much to ignore. We are intentionally choosing to eat less meat, dairy and egg products forever. May sound crazy to some, but to us it sound more crazy to be given the information and do nothing.
Okay, that's our start. What about yours?
A New Life Choice
It seems the more information We learn and ponder on requires us to make some kind of life choice. Do we ignore the information?.....find more research to document the information?...ignore it all together after all we are very busy people and do not have time to dwell on it......Or make a life choice that brings about change. Either way a choice is made, to do something or nothing and all choices have consequences.
After watching "Forks Over Knives", each of our family units have decided to make a change toward eating more plant based foods. This is a huge change and mind shift for some of us so we are working together to encourage and support each other.
In our next several posts we will be sharing new recipes and cookbooks, more information on documented studies, and our struggles and triumphs. Our combined households include ages 22 months to 83, a grand total of 19 life forces. This will definitely be an adventure.

Raising up the Next Generation of Faithfulness
Being blessed with six boys and three girls born into our family has given us a wonderful opportunity to raise more men and women of God. Our continual vigilance in the task of raising them to be godly sons, brothers, husbands. fathers and daughters, sisters, wives. and mothers is paramount. Through God's grace they will all be His. So let us stand strongly united together, encouraging one another to remain faithful to the task. So their hearts will always be moldable in His hands.
Your mom had mentioned it the same day i read about it on a fitness blog. I love a good documentary so I watched it. It just made a lot of sense with the other things we've seen. I live with 3 carnivores,I had just purchased 100lbs of meat for our freezer and we have 9 chickens so I wasnt sure how to make it work. We are just making a conscience effort to eat less meat. Instead of having meat for every meal I make it a few times a week. We've given up dairy and that was easier. Doing a gradually process has been less traumatic for everyone. I'm also working through the china study. what I like about the movie is that it isn't based on one book or one doctor. All the doctors in the movie had their own story that had brought them all together. They all also have their own books.
